Having some fun Roller Skating

Having some fun Roller Skating

Do you remember back to the days of your childhood roller skating? While we had roller skating rinks we all preferred to cruise on the sidewalks and in the streets. I suppose that’s life in the suburbs where traffic is less in those secondary roads. And man were we fearless cross the streets. I can still see it – the streets of Hofheim weren’t all that safe with us cruising up and down on our skates or playing street hockey in front of our house. Where I live now – in rural Virginia – I couldn’t even imagine roller skating on the road without the worry of getting run over by a car. And forget finding a place or even a park with paved walkways…

Build a fort and color

Build a fort and color

You may have jokingly said, you’ll build a fort and color to get some relaxation and peace in your world there’s an underlying truth to this joke: Sometimes you need to shut out the world to focus on you. You’re a limited resource and unless you take time to renew yourself, you will quickly get burned out. Let’s explore the fun world that awaits you in coloring. Coloring Therapy Coloring is a type of therapy. As such, it often gets confused with art therapy, which is a more involved process that depends on the relationship between a client and therapist. However, coloring helps to reduce anxiety, provide focus, mental clarity, a break from negative thoughts and behaviors, provides an alternative method to meditation, improves reality…

You don’t need your organs when you’re gone

You don’t need your organs when you’re gone

You don’t need your organs when you’re gone – and that’s a fact. It’s April and that means it is organ donation awareness month. The reality is that without organ donation my kid wouldn’t be here today – it gave him a quality of life that the urea cycle disorder robbed him of. Organ donation gave him a second chance when he was given 2-5 years to live due to chronic liver disease. When we first headed into this journey in 2008 – I heard people say that they would never and then gave me a list of reasons most of them related to religion. And I don’t want to rob anyone of their beliefs or tell them what to do but when we die…

Autism Acceptance

Autism Acceptance

As I was looking on what to write about I thought Autism Awareness would be the thing – what I would rather write about is Autism Acceptance because that makes the most sense to me. In my house we do not need to become MORE aware because in our house it’s as normal as the grass can be green – but it can also be brown and yellow. And frankly, I can’t nor should I speak for my son but I know that he doesn’t want any attention drawn to him – he just wants to be left alone and do his thing. I observed quite of bit of something that I can only roll my eyes at – the argument about how we as…

Hippo Earflap Beanie

I love crochet animal hats and crochet character hats, like this Hippo Earflap Beanie. Back in 2011, I created what felt like a million character hats, and amazingly enough not only was I able to reduce a bunch of debt I had but provide an amazing Christmas for my kids. And let’s be honest, they are fun to make, and kids and adults love to wear them. Not only are they great for Halloween but they can be worn anytime you like! I miss running but I get to crochet

I miss running but I get to crochet

I miss running. I wanted to challenge myself and see if I could achieve 2021 miles this year – and I’ve already been a bit behind at the beginning of April – but then the thing I dreaded happened. I went on a run not just to focus on my challenge goal and regular exercise routine but I had just a difficult moments just the day before and for the best release and processing happens during a run. What I didn’t count on is how have that event actually impacted me and so instead of focusing on my run and pay attention to the trail my head was so consumed by all of my feelings that I tripped and boom sprained my ankle. Initially I…

Item of the month: Oval Owl Pyrography

This Owl Pyrography is a beautiful scene of an owl on the windowsill. The wood-burning is on an oval wood plate measuring 9″ x 12″ and has been protected with shellac to protect the art from fading. I thought it would be cool to use the plate to set in the owl on the window sill and yeah I am not disappointed in the outcome. There’s something very mystical about an owl – we have one in our backyard but the only reason I know this is because we can hear the owl. We have yet to get a glimpse of it. Owl Pyrography 9″ x 12″ Oval Plate Protected with Shellac Comes ready to hang Working around the lip of this oval plate was…

Changes in latitude – a move ahead

Changes in latitude = changes in attitude! 31 days and my partner is Texas bound. I will be following in 2022 and there are reasons for that. Lennon has one more year of high school left and he’s also transitioning into adulthood and as someone who has a disability, there are a lot of things that happen for him. Since he is in a specific program for his schooling we thought it is best if he’d finish out the year before the big move. I could have probably figured it out in Texas but with a pandemic still having over our heads as well – we are certainly choosing a path that makes sense for Lennon. He will get to graduate with people he knows…
