A Wildly Rooted Collection Library

A Curated Collection of Nature-Led Surface Design

I create hand-drawn surface pattern collections inspired by trails, weather, woodland details, slow living, and the quiet stories held in ordinary things. Designed for licensing, collaboration, and product development, these collections are made to live beautifully on fabric, wallpaper, home goods, stationery, and lifestyle products.

Designed with Intention

  • Hand-Drawn Artwork: Every collection begins with observation, sketching, and original hand-drawn artwork.
  • Production-Ready: Thoughtfully constructed repeats and layouts created for real-world application.
  • Multiple Colorways: Versatile palettes that bring depth, emotion, and seasonal feasibility. .
  • Build as Collections: Cohesive stories with hero patterns, coordinates, and supporting designs.

Rooted in Nature.

Every collection begins long before it becomes a repeat pattern. Usually, it starts outside. On a trail. In shifting weather. In the details most people walk past without noticing. I gather textures, shapes, color, and atmosphere from the natural world, then bring them back into the studio to sketch, refine, and build into collections that feel layered, grounded, and alive.

My work is shaped by nature, but also by memory, resilience, and the slower process of paying attention. I’m interested in patterns that do more than fill space. I want them to carry atmosphere. I want them to feel like they belong somewhere. I want them to create products people reach for because they feel something when they see them.

I’m Petra Monaco, an artist, surface designer, and longtime creative whose work is shaped by nature, story, and a respect for slow, intentional craft. I create hand-drawn collections that blend texture, emotional depth, and visual cohesion for brands and products that want more than trend-driven decoration.

My background as a pyrography artist influences how I see line, warmth, texture, and detail. Life near the Blue Ridge Mountains, time spent on the trails, and a habit of noticing the overlooked all find their way into the work.

The result is a growing library of collections that feel grounded, layered, and versatile enough for home decor, textiles, stationery, packaging, and lifestyle goods.

Burned Botanicals: Rose Study

Burned Botanicals began with a single hand-burned rose study, created slowly with pyrography. What started as a finished piece became something more, an exploration of how one idea might continue to evolve beyond its original form.

The original woodburning became the foundation for a series of patterns that hold onto that warmth and texture while allowing the work to move into a new space.

This collection is a continuation, where a piece that began as fire on wood finds new life across pattern and surface.

Deep Root

Deep Root shifts the palette further into shadow, where color deepens and the florals take on a quieter, more grounded presence. The rose motifs remain, but the contrast softens, allowing the patterns to feel more integrated and atmospheric.

Drawn from forest greens, aged bark, and muted petals, the palette creates a sense of depth and stillness. The patterns feel less arranged and more settled, like something that has grown into place over time.

This colorway holds that deeper layer of the collection, where light fades and the details become part of the whole rather than standing apart.

After the Rain

After the Rain is a woodland collection shaped by quiet, damp mornings and the stillness that follows a passing storm. Mushrooms push through leaf litter, snails trace slow paths across the forest floor, and small details begin to surface once everything settles.

Earthbound

Earthbound shifts the focus from sky to ground, where everything settles and the forest begins to soften. The trail darkens, the soil warms, and the details underfoot become easier to notice.

Frogs, snails, and forest floor elements remain, but the palette moves deeper and warmer, drawn from earth, bark, and late light. The patterns reflect what happens after the rain passes, when the landscape begins to dry, leaving behind texture, movement, and quiet traces of what came before.

Let’s Create Something Meaningful Together

The work is rooted in nature, texture, and story, and built to translate across real products. If you’re developing a line, exploring licensing, or looking for something with a bit more weight behind it, we should talk.
