Petra’s 2021 Goals

Even though it’s already the end of January I wanted to share my 2021 goals with you. I actually spend the entire month focusing on my content for the year and getting myself organized. Once again, life and the last year have put in perspective what’s important to me and 2020 was familiar to us as we had socially distanced and isolated ourselves after Lennon’s liver transplants to keep him safe. And somewhere in the middle, my partner had emergency surgery sewing an artery back together that he accidentally nipped while at work, leading us to some life-changing decisions. When the pandemic hit and everything shut down I started retreating from social media and reduced the scrolling. I focused on supporting my clients and did…

Celebrating 10 years of Liverversary

Celebrating 10 years of Liverversary

While many are focused on the inauguration today, here in our home we are celebrating 10 years of liverversary. It’s been 10 years of good health and no setbacks. Sure there’s been a cold here and there but nothing that impacted his liver health in any way. There have been surgeries to add in mesh to hold his abdomen together, biopsies, and wisdom teeth removal. I remember the years before his first transplant – the unknown followed by the Urea Cycle Disorder Diagnosis. And then following the months after his first two transplants that had his life on the wire and then the terminal diagnosis of chronic liver disease in 2010. And to see him today, just 5 months shy of turning 18 I am…

Will run for Coffee

Will run for Coffee

If you were in doubt if I will run for coffee – doubt no more! I love running and I don’t know how many times I share with someone that I like running – I get this weird look. Add in the fact that I got up at 6 am and went on a run at 7:30 in the morning during 30-degree weather, yeah you might say I am a bit crazy (and weird of course). And seriously, I don’t love the cold. In fact, I have this hate relationship when it drops below 74 degrees any time of year, date, or nite. But I must say my health has become a bit of a priority for me – and I love these virtual runs…

Sleeping Dragon Wood-Burning Pattern

Sleeping Dragon Wood-Burning Pattern

I just released the Sleeping Dragon Wood-Burning Pattern and I am excited on how it turned out. I don’t consider myself the best pencil-drawing artist, but I think I can manage the line art for a pattern. I love dragons and when I looked at the piece of hickory, I thought it would make a create wood-canvas for a sleeping dragon. I didn’t want to just have a dragon on this piece, I envisioned a whole scene that you may see if you were to walk upon a dragon in a cave. I thought to incorporate some of the natural grain colors would help bring this idea together. I always love it when you can blend art with nature in a way that just seems…

Embracing ABA Therapy

Embracing ABA Therapy

For the last few months, we’ve been embracing ABA therapy which is understanding how behavior works in real situations. The goal is to increase behaviors that are helpful and decrease behaviors that are harmful or affect learning. One of the challenges we often experience is that Lennon freezes when put in the spot. He avoids any situation that could potentially put any attention on him which can make navigating the world a bit of a challenge. With him just being a few months away from 18 one of our key focuses has been to help him get as independent as possible and give him as many life skills that he can handle. It’s become clear that he will not be working towards a driver’s license…

12 Years and Counting

12 Years and Counting

November 18th, 2020 is the day that it’s been 12 years and counting since his original liver transplant and that changed so many things. There isn’t a day that doesn’t go by where I am not in awe of medical technology and advances that have been achieved that allow me to share this life with an extraordinary human being. I had a friend ask me a question if Lennon had a specific type of procedure related to his liver transplants and after a bit of back and forth – she reminded me that she liked it when I am in my feels about his journey. And yes, I know I am his mother and perhaps a little bias – but ask the people around him…

Who knew I’d use a compass again

Who knew I’d use a compass again

As someone who wasn’t too keen on math during my high school years, I never thought I would use a compass again but here I am working on another coloring book inspiration doing just that. The inspiration came to me as I was creating the skull mandala you see below and really that’s usually how I find new ideas and projects. I think we often get caught up staring into space and wonder “what’s next” instead of doing things and allowing them to just flow. As I was creating said skull mandala I had the idea of using spirit animals as a guide and then create a mandala around them – making the animal the focus. I don’t talk about my spirituality very often as…

The season to simplify and organize

The season to simplify and organize

It’s the season to simplify and organize and I’ve been feeling it for the month, I’ve been spending my time simplifying my process to run my businesses and creating a system that I can work with. This means making the most out of the moments where I tend to hyper-focus on an idea that’s become a project. I think it’s time that we change what productivity means on an individual level – I mean getting things done is awesome – I am all about that because in order to achieve goals, you do have to make things happen. But If you can find a way that works for you, why would you not tap into that. Let me give you an example or three! 5…

The Lion Pride Wood-Burning

The Lion Pride Wood-Burning

The Lion Pride Wood-Burning is a beautiful scene of a lion family wood-burned on wood with stained frame. But I want to talk about how it all came together. As you can see here, I didn’t make the graphite lines light. IN fact, I left them dark on purpose so that I would burn darker. This has been a theme for me because I used to burn too light which in essence can make your wood-burning piece fada a lot faster. Once the pattern was traced, I started with the king of the jungle as getting him in place and wood-burned would be the guide for the entire lion pride wood-burning. This first lion cub didn’t quite turn out as I had hoped. I actually…
