In the Wild Margins
An illustrated journey through nature, creativity, and the art of noticing.
Art, observations, and stories from a life spent looking closer.
There’s a whole world hiding in the little things.
A moth resting on a leaf. A turtle wandering through the woods. The shape of a wildflower you’ve passed a hundred times without really seeing.
I’m fascinated by the things we tend to overlook. The ordinary, the unexpected, the slightly peculiar, and the beautiful little details that make the natural world so interesting.
And somewhere along the way, I started turning those discoveries into drawings, watercolors, and stories. That’s how In the Wild Margins began.
It’s an ongoing illustrated collection inspired by my wanderings through the Blue Ridge Mountains, the things I notice while walking, and the creative rabbit holes I inevitably fall down.

One Page. Every Week. A Whole Lot to Discover.
In the Wild Margins is a paid illustrated newsletter that arrives in your inbox once a week.
Each page is a little piece of my creative world, filled with original artwork, observations, interesting discoveries, and whatever catches my attention.
Some weeks it might be a wildflower. Other weeks, an insect, a woodland creature, or something I stumbled across on a trail and couldn’t stop thinking about.
There will be watercolors, sketches, stories, and probably a few things that send me down a research rabbit hole. Because curiosity has never been particularly good at staying on schedule.
What you’ll receive
No assignments. No pressure to keep up. Just something interesting and beautiful arriving in your inbox each week.
Your Journey Begins at Page One
Here’s something a little different.
You don’t have to join at the beginning of the year or worry about missing previous pages.
Whenever you become a member, you start with Page 1.
From there, a new page arrives every week, unfolding into a growing collection of illustrated observations and stories.
The first volume, The Art of Noticing, will feature 52 illustrated encounters with the natural world.
And that’s only the beginning.
I have more ideas than I probably know what to do with, so future volumes will explore new subjects, stories, and creative wanderings.
A Little About the Artist
I’m Petra, the artist behind Wild Ridge Studio.
I spend a good deal of my time making art, walking dogs, wandering around the Blue Ridge Mountains, and taking an unreasonable number of photographs of things most people probably walk right past.
A lot of my work begins with those moments.
A flower I want to paint.
An insect I need to identify.
A little discovery that makes me stop and wonder how I’ve gone this long without noticing it.
In the Wild Margins is my way of gathering those moments into something meaningful and sharing them with people who enjoy looking a little closer, too.

Membership
Your membership includes a new illustrated page delivered by email every week, beginning with Page 1.
Stay as long as you’d like. Cancel whenever you need to.
Your paid weekly pages stop when your membership ends, but you can still keep up with everything happening at Wild Ridge Studio through my regular newsletter.
The First Volume: The Art of Noticing
52 illustrated encounters with the everyday wild.
As the collection grows, the artwork will also appear in digital editions, printed books, and other special releases.
And when the original 52-page collection is complete, I plan to offer the entire one-of-a-kind body of artwork through a special collector sale, potentially an auction.
But first, we begin with a single page.
