You can do nothing or you can take action.

Life as you know it isn’t going to change if you are not willing to look at the dark side of things. Life, contrary to some belief isn’t all rainbows, glitter, and unicorns. And even if you reach that in your life, something will at eventually trip you up.

This life is a journey but it’s really more an adventure than anything. So you fall down, get turned around and maybe even lost for a little bit. This doesn’t mean you are on the wrong path – it simply means you have forgotten who you and what you stand for – and live in such a way that you can reflect on your life with awe – even during the dark times.

An adventure you want to look back so you can say:

  • Yes, I lived.
  • Yes, I took action when I was scared.
  • Yes, I cried.
  • Yes, I was mad.
  • Yes, I did something worthwhile.

And the list could go on and on. I love setting goals and achieving them, but goals are mere resting points, not stopping points.

And they can be highly addictive too. Once you set one goal and you’ve achieved it, you will want to do this again and again.

But part of this can stop you from truly living, from taking that much needed time out and getting yourself grounded into your being.

I love setting goals and am probably a goal junkie but I have learned over the years to take a step back.

And for me that looks something like this:

  • take naps
  • read books
  • go to concerts
  • do nothing
  • lounge on the futon and watch TV

It can simply mean doing less.

And that can have you going all kinds of crazy in your mind because you have all the things to do.

But how can you live in the moment if you are too busy to take a timeout?

Frankly, you can’t. When you cater to other people, do things that don’t matter in the big scheme of things, you are allowing life to slip away. Don’t allow that to be you!

So today, make a list of all the things that:

  • bring you joy
  • give you peace
  • make you feel alive
  • bring you happiness
  • give you fulfillment

And then commit to doing ONE of those things a day.
