Life Lessons from a boy named Lennon

Life Lessons from a boy named Lennon

There are always lessons to be learned in life if you are open to recognizing them and most importantly if you are willing to listen.

My son Lennon has been changing people’s lives, inspiring them and motivating them into being more present, to not take anything for granted and also showing the shadow side of life is too short to be miserable.

When I tell people that, Lennon is my greatest teacher on how to do life, I am not joking.

The kid knows what he wants and he’s quite verbal about it too.

And what you may not know, if you’ve never heard about Lennon, read the blog posts or the book is that he survived his first 4 years of life, living with a potentially fatal rare genetic disorder. And since it was undiagnosed for some time, his brain took a little bit of a hit in the cognitive area – but don’t let that fool you.

He is often one of the smartest people in the circle. His wisdom is often leaving me speechless.

The other day he said:

You have to be ready at some point, so why not be ready now?

Sure, you could delay being ready but aren’t you just putting off the inevitable?
The moment you decide to go after what you want – your dreams, goals and a life that feels good – is the moment you are ready. You can, of course, keep talking yourself out of it but why? What’s the point?

  • Start that business
  • Write that Book
  • Get healthy

Be ready now and stop waiting for one day.

It isn’t always about the things he said, although they are brilliant and yes I realize I may be a little bias, but the thought has crossed my mind that people needed to spend time with him and hear his story. He’d never go for it and I got to respect that. That, of course, doesn’t mean I won’t share life lessons along the way.

Like anytime I hear someone complain about how shitty life is or how miserable they are.

Because of the genetic disorder becoming unmanagable after his diagnosis, it was recommended that he has a liver transplant because while there is no cure, this can change his life for the better. And so that’s what we did but we couldn’t fathom the fact that he’d have 3 liver transplants between the ages 5-8 and that things were really tricky for a while. (You can read about his journey in Lennon Steps).

But here’s the thing, no matter how dicey things were, how painful everything was (physically or emotionally), he got up and did what he needed to do. That doesn’t mean he didn’t complain but it seemed he just knew what he needed to do in order to get home from the hospital or get back to school.

Or like now where he’s saving up for an XBOX One and he’s diligent about the chores that help him earn money.

And some days are hit or miss, but he’s never quit if it’s something he wants.

I think that’s an important lesson.

Don’t quit the life you want to have.

It takes dedication, commitment, and a willingness to go against the status quo. Even if it means people don’t like you or you don’t fit in.

Lennon isn’t worried about fitting in.
Lennon is worried about what video game he’s going to play.

So, don’t worry about fitting in, instead figure out what you are going to do next that you want to do and of course could have an impact on your life.

Worry (not really) about the important stuff. Get excited (Yes this) about it!

Choose to wake up with joy in your heart!

There aren’t many days I recall Lennon ever to be angry or grumpy (unless the pain was too much). That doesn’t mean he doesn’t get upset, it just doesn’t stick around long enough. I think he doesn’t know how to hold a grudge of any kind because he just is filled with joy and it shows.

There’s something very genuine about it and it always reminds me that you get to choose how you feel, how you engage, express yourself.

Choose to be angry, you’ll feel miserable and wonder when life will change.

Choose to feel and be joy, life looks different filled with gratitude and like an adventure.

What will you choose?

Stop setting resolutions and have your best year

Stop setting resolutions and have your best year

Resolutions are a crap shoot of setting yourself up for failure.

For years and years, I set resolutions about writing that book, or be more healthy and even have better relationships with people.

And it was only a matter of weeks when all of my resolutions flew out of the window and I was in the same spot as the year before.

I started to doubt that I would ever make my ideas a reality because if I couldn’t even stick to my resolutions, how would I ever have the kind of life that I wanted?

I knew something needed to change and I discovered the most important pieces that were missing!

My Why: I needed something that dug deep into the heart of why I wanted to create the change. Without a solid why, however, I lost my momentum.

My why fuels the purpose of the books I have written and the books I am still planning to write.

My why gives me a reason for my mission to be healthier as it addresses the reasons for changing the food I eat and the motivation to exercise.

My why also helped me uncover the kind of relationships I wanted to have and what they would mean to my overall wellbeing and day-to-day life.

Do you know the why behind the changes you want to create?

If you want to have the best year, then get clear on what you want. Which leads to the next point of my discovery!

My Vision: Without a vision of what I wanted my life to feel like and really visualize what that means, I would continue to get up every morning and exist in the life I had created up to that point.

Writing out my vision for my life and then narrow it down to the year, I was able to uncover who I wanted to be, what I wanted to do and what I wanted to have.

And before I knew it, the vision not only became a wee bit bigger than myself, but I know had a map that I could use to develop my goals from.

Goals have a much greater impact than resolutions.

What is the vision you have for your life and how can you start towards this vision now?

There is a sweet spot for goals setting and it’s right in between short-term and long-term. Resolutions tend to be rather short-term and again without the why I found that nothing would change.

And setting lifetime goals can feel too far out of reach. So why write your visions?

So you can break them down!

You don’t build a house overnight, nor do you travel across the country in a car in one day.

Change occurs in small incremental steps.

And when you write your vision for the next year, allow your intuition to guide you. Don’t listen to the negative voices in your head or allow the judgment of others filter into your thoughts.

Instead, give yourself permission to dream uncensored.

This means that your vision includes everything you want to be, do and have interests, with passion, healthier you and better relationships – or whatever calls you!

So just how did this process change my life?

The moment I wrote out my vision, I was able to see who I wanted to become, the things I wanted to do and the things I wanted to have in my life. And when I am talking about “having” I am not just talking about material things.

So it looks like this:

  1. Write the vision. You can start with a whole life vision and then the year, or just the year. Don’t forget to include all the reasons why and how you will feel at each moment your vision comes true.
  2. Choose Be, Do and Have Goals based on your vision. And yes you may have left something off of your vision, that’s okay! You can rewrite your vision if you want to!
  3. Create 90-Day actions plans for each goal. Start with the goal and then brainstorm all the steps required to complete the goal.
  4. Tune into your intuition of when during the year this would feel really amazing. And usually, the thing that gets you most excited is THE goal to start with.

Some key points for you:

This is YOUR vision and not someone else’s and you’re going to need to be okay with the side eye from friends and family.

Your vision may change just tap back into that part that gives you purpose and motivation. Sometimes you may need to rewrite your vision until you get to the point of OMG THIS IS IT!

You will doubt yourself and your ability to achieve your goals. This is normal but don’t feed the fears!

The moment you decide to stop setting resolutions

Will create a ripple effect in all areas of your life.

When you know who you want to be, you become that person.

When you know what to do you will stop the procrastination dilemmas.

When you know what you want to have and why you will give your life purpose.

Are you willing to stop setting resolutions and allow yourself to set goals that are driven by your intuition and recognize that you have a bigger purpose in life?

It’s here! My New Book – Forge your own Path, One goal at a time

It’s here! My New Book – Forge your own Path, One goal at a time

You, me and everyone else in this world have a vision!

The challenge?

Falling into the abyss of doing it like everyone else because it’s what you “should” do. But what if you could create your vision, bring it to life without falling into the dark hole of conformity?

Forging your own path is a framework to read, learn and mold from. It’s part of the blueprint that you use to map out the adventure of a lifetime. It’s knowing that even the best laid out plans, sometimes fail. It’s embracing the challenges and detours along the way.

But it is not the know it all answer to solving your problems, another possible solution to forging your own path. More than anything else, it’s becoming who you are, by undoing who you think you should be. It’s defining your own rules and follow your own ideas because that next one could change your life.

I wrote, “Forge your own Path” not only because this is what I have been doing most of my life without even knowing this is what I did. You see, I tried to be the 1950’s housewife, the model employee and even the picture perfect mother.

And every fiber of my being told me it was all wrong.

Forging your own path isn’t easy, but I do believe you will agree with me when I say, it will totally be worth it!

This book emerged onto the horizon on accidental purpose. I am knee deep into my first fiction book that I am writing, and without fail, more book ideas have been inspired by it all. I struggled for awhile to write this book only to realize that I had started this book with a different title back in February. So anyway, here it is… words unleashed into the world once again!

I could really use your help. Below you will find quick and easy ways you can help spread the word about the new book Forge your own Path.

Thanks so much for your help!

Stop talking about the things you will do and start making them happen

Stop talking about the things you will do and start making them happen

We all have fallen into the trap of saying “one day I will” because the reality is that “one day” will never actually materialize into existence.

It’s so much easier to say “one day” instead of actually starting right here this minute.

And if you keep saying “one day” do you actually really want this thing to come into your reality?

Truth is that taking action towards the dream you have is no small feat because the doubts and fears and your ego will tell you that you

  • are not good enough
  • don’t have what it takes
  • you will lose your friends

It’s so much easier to stay in the box of conformity and safety among your family and friends than actually standing up for what you want and what you believe in.

But you aren’t embracing who you are and you are denying the world of your skills and talents, and that’s a damn shame.

Because you are powerful being full of ideas, skills, and talents and how dare you do not stand and embrace it all?

If you want to write that book, start a business, change your life, you need to do something about it. Because let’s face it you can’t wait for “one day” and then lay on your death bed and regret that you didn’t make it happen.

How would your life change if you decided to take action today?

What kind of impact could you have if you decided that today is the day you take the first step?

I have created the vision quest to help you take that first teeny tiny step.

  • Take the Vision Quest and give yourself permission to map out the direction of your dreams so you can create the life you want!
  • Conquer your Thoughts and Beliefs and change them so you can rid yourself of sabotage.
  • The confidence boost to help you get a perspective on who you are and the people that have always supported you!
  • Decide which Be, Do and Have Goal you are going to make happen in the next 90 Days!
  • Create your action plan and know exactly the steps you will take to achieve your be, do and have goal!
