Are you trying to keep yourself too separated?

Are you trying to keep yourself too separated?

Are you trying to keep yourself too separated?I started my first business in 2005 and have had a few that I either lost interest, simply because they didn’t give me the fulfillment I need every single day.

The challenge over the years became that I was creating all of these different things and kept them separate from my life depended on it.

Because conformity taught me that we can’t be and do all that we wanted and that we had to choose one thing.

And here I was trying to show that you can have the cake and eat it too but it became incredibly difficult to manage. What I hoped would be a piece of cake because a clusterfuck that I struggled to maintain some kind of sanity around.

And for someone who is preaching about forging your own path and doing all things your way, I was in completely out of alignment with my message and how I showed up every single day.

And here I am today with a new layout for my website because I can squish all that I love in one place and I no longer have to come up with content for a gazillion things, but rather just in once place sharing wisdom about life, business, art and whatever else I may want to talk about.

Why would this matter to you?

Since I decided to make changes in my business before the website change, I have been trying to figure out how I can best show you that you absolutely can have the life that you want, do the things that you love and you don’t have to sacrifice a single thing about you.

I am able to show you that all you need is clarity on what you want and where you want to go and then allow the pieces to fall into place.

This life… it’s a journey.

And as I am turning a year older tomorrow, I know that this past year has been about undoing and becoming in more than one way. And sometimes we can’t see that until someone points this out.

So how do you bring all the pieces together?

You write it out of course!

Write about in terms of one year, 5 years and even 25 years from now.

What does your perfect day look like? Who are you with? What have you been up to that brings you the most joy? What do you do for fun? What does that look like? What does that feel like? What passions have you been pursuing, either full-time or part-time?

Here’s an excerpt of what I wrote December 2016:

The date is December 31st, 2017 and I am so grateful and happy that our home feels so amazing and warm and cozy. I love that I wake up to my partner every morning and that we are literally achieving our goals to freedom to live on the road.

All of our debt is paid off and my partner is driving around town in his new truck. My Kia Soul is paid off and continues to bring me joy when I am driving it around town.

Our kids and animals are the epitomai of health and life truly is feeling awesome these days.

Our garden this year has produced so much goodness of zucchini, tomato, eggplant, oregano, basil and green peppers. I truly enjoyed working in my garden grow our own food.

I am so grateful and happy that I get to support amazing women in the Rebel Soul Connection helping them achieve their goals in life and that I have been able to grow my own support network in the process. It feels really amazing to have people in your life that not only listen to you but cheer you on as well.

I am so grateful and happy that I have written my first fiction novel and that I enjoyed the process so much that I cannot wait to write more books in the upcoming year following.

My artwork is selling with ease and it doesn’t take much effort to share my work and people love how I bring value to their life, showing them that anything is truly possible.

And here’s what happened during this year:

  • I opened up the Rebel Soul Connection
  • I grew our own vegetables
  • Started playing soccer as a way to exercise
  • Became a podcaster
  • Started writing my fiction book (to be released in December)
  • Started writing a self-help book (to be released in October)
  • Merged all of my blogs and became a lifestyle blogger of sorts
  • I share my coloring pages, artwork, and wisdom in one spot
  • Made progress in our remodel starting with the kitchen
  • Decluttered and purged through the house
  • My partner has a new truck
  • Teaming up with local hospital to share my coloring pages with parents

This is the power of writing it all down and having some clear goals on who you want to be, what you want to have and what you want to do.

Some of these I had no idea how they would unfold nor how they would come into our lives, but they did nonetheless.

And you can have the same undoing and becoming for yourself if you are willing to take a chance with yourself.

How to stop waiting and start taking action

How to stop waiting and start taking action

Have you ever considered what getting clear on your dreams does for you?

Or what one simple action will do for your life?

You have the vision that is so far out of reach and you wonder every single day when will your dream turn into reality.

You plan, plan and then plan some more waiting for perfection and just the right time. You keep analyzing every single detail about your dream. You keep talking yourself out of it and your doubts and fears tell you that it just cannot happen.

I’m going to tell you something and you may not like it, but the right time will never come into reality.

And now I am going to tell you that you CAN turn your dreams into reality, with one single thing.

Taking Action!

Let go of fear and self-doubt Click To Tweet

Believe in you and in your dream.

But how can I take action when I don’t know what to do?

You already have a plan right? So, now create some action steps to go with the plan.

Brainstorm a list of things you will need to do.

Let’s say you want to start a business because you want the freedom.

What will you need to get started?

Create a checklist of what you will need to do.

Do those things!

Or maybe you want to make more art?

What art do you want to do? Decide it!

Purchase your supplies.

Make art.

Oh but I don’t have the time.

We all have the time when we make it a priority. Click To Tweet

You look at all the things you are doing now and decide what it is that no longer fits in your priority list, let that go and then voila, you now have time to do that thing you want to do.

Just maybe you are saying, but I want to be healthier.

Define what being healthier means to you.

Is it eating less junk food or cooking more meals from scratch or both. Is it exercising and moving your body more often?

Be clear on what that means for you and then write it down.

Now write all the things you can do to help you feel and be healthier.

You have just created a list of all the things you can do to take action.

When we start to overanalyzing and make excuses i.e. it’s not perfect enough or I don’t have time you are being a disservice to your own life and your own dream.

6 Books I think everyone ought to read

6 Books I think everyone ought to read

I’ve been attempting to read more but have struggled with it since graduating from college 7 years ago. And isn’t it funny the excuses we make because I was reading text-heavy academic books for four years I made the excuse that it caused a reading burnout!

And then I made the excuse I didn’t have time to read books, well hello audiobooks but then I made, even more, excuses like “I can’t listen to them while at home”. It’s crazy!

But growing and learning are important to me and so I made a bit more of an effort to read and here are the books I have read so far this year.

She Means Business by Carrie Green

This one was perhaps a pivotal part in (finally) making the changes in my business I have been craving. Carrie Green not only talks about her own journey but gives some incredible steps to move your business forward even if it means to adjust the sails a bit. It’s definitely a good read and one that I will more than likely read again.

Start with Why by Simon Sinek

I think this one of those books that every business owner needs to read. It’s definitely about how to develop your own leadership and gives some incredible insight on why a business fails and what it will take to succeed.

5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins

This was definitely one of my favorite books, there are parts where Mel is so real about what she was experiencing but also sharing other people’s story where you could just hear her well up with tears. I listened to the audiobook version and I am glad I did. If you are a procrastinator, then this is totally the book for you.

The Success Principles by Jack Canfield

I am in the middle of this book, listening to it on my walk for 30 minutes. Not five minutes into the book I was feeling a-ha moments and became emotional which is pretty interesting to me as this is not a fiction book. But if you are struggling in your life right now with anything, then this book is a goldmine.

The Wealth Mindset by Neville Goddard

Mindset while not everything is an important ingredient for your success. Perspective is everything and this book can really help you gain that next level of awareness.

Expert Secrets by Russel Brunson

There are leaders and there are leaders but what creates a movement is truly based on the kind of leader you are. It’s definitely one of those books that I read in a day because I wanted to know the next step and then the next step. If you are ready to share your message with the world, then this book is a must-read.

Have you read any of these books? I would love to hear from you what you thought about them!

Incredibly Useful Business Resources For Starting Entrepreneurs

Incredibly Useful Business Resources For Starting Entrepreneurs

Starting a business of any kind needs some elemental resources to help you streamline your business pretty much from the beginning.

It really isn’t enough to say “I want to start a business” and there are a lot of moving parts.

I compiled a list of resources that I use or have used to help me in the early stages of my business and continue to be a part of the journey!

Content Development

Content is definitely what helps a business grow that brings not only value but information to your people. Being able to manage your content for your different platforms like your blog, newsletter and social media is often comes with an overwhelming feeling.

  • Google Drive – all of your content in one place without having to use Microsoft Office. Not that I am against them because I do use them but I am able to access the content just about anywhere. This is a free version that comes with your Gmail account.

  • Evernote – also a good platform to organize your content within folders and notes. There is a free element to this but the more storage you will need, you are going to need to upgrade.

  • Excel – Spreadsheets can really help you decide your content in terms of what you are writing and when you are posting it. I created my editorial calendar for the year and it’s been amazing because now all I have to do is show up and write.

List building and your newsletter are really an important part of your business journey. In your newsletter, you are connecting more closely with your people by offering them additional information as well as making various offers you have going on. But how does one start a newsletter?

To begin you will need a platform that has the ability to collect the e-mails.

  • MailChimp – It’s a free service to start but the bigger you get you will need to pay for the using it as well as that some features are only for paid upgrades.

  • Mailerlite – Also free for up to a certain amount of people on your list before it switches into a paid service. It comes with a lot of added features to get you started similar to MailChimp. It’s the one I am currently using and I am liking it so far.

  • ConvertKit – I just switched to convertkit, so I am still in the learning curve BUT I am already in love with its features and ease of creating forms, sequences, and automation!

Other’s that I know little about but have heard of them:

These all require a monthly fee which in the scheme of things is part of the business and a necessity, but if you are just starting out, the above-mentioned may be more suitable.

  • Aweber
  • Clickfunnels
  • Infusionsoft
  • ActiveCampaign

Social Media

You want to connect with people, share your message and tell them that you exist! But it can be incredibly time-consuming to sit down and post several times a day. That’s why planning your content ahead of time is a good idea, and in addition, you want to automate some of your social media. I say some because if you automate everything, people don’t think they are connecting with a real person.

Some tools that are helpful:

  • PostPlanner – this is a good resource to schedule your posts as well as come up with content if you are struggling. They have trivia questions, quotes, images etc to help you create engagement. You can post to Facebook pages, groups, and Twitter.

  • Hootsuite – Here you can manage your social media also on various platforms and schedule your content ahead of time. It’s has a free trial for you to check out and explore.

  • dlvrit – I am currently exploring with this one and so far I am able to find relatable content for my social media posts as well as schedule my own. It’s great if you want to repost your blog posts at a later date again but this is a paid feature.

It’s really valuable to do some research and spend time learning about the various ways to curate your content and then share it with the world.

What you need to know about starting a business

What you need to know about starting a business

I would love to start off this post with saying that starting and having your own business is full of bliss and glory but I am not into creating unrealistic illusions.

When I first ventured into the business 11 years ago, I for sure believed and thought this would be a cakewalk, and in part that dreamer in me is certainly responsible for that. But the practical and logical person that resides within, new better.

And I want to share with you, some things that I have learned over the years when it comes to starting a business. I have had a few of them, some of them complete and utter failure – not because my heart wasn’t in it, but I was not working from my zone of genius – that thing I am so damn good at and that I could do all day long without batting an eye.

If you are thinking that started a business is perfect for you, read on because the next few tips will help you get on the track of knowing and doing what you love.

Know your Talents, Skills, and Knowledge

Take a piece of paper and make a list of all the things you are good at. Then next to it make a list of all the skills you have mastered and the knowledge you have gained – in life, work and going to school. Even if you are self-taught, this will help you find your zone of expertise.

This can include anything from being super self-disciplined, creative, technical, and your education. Maybe it’s having a unique perspective, overcoming challenges and having a killer mindset. Or maybe you are awesome at building websites, behind the scenes work or making things like painting or other art skills.

Acknowledge your weakness

This is so not a bad thing. I used to think it is but knowing the areas of where you could use more support will work in your favor as you are laying out your business. For example, even though I have a degree in Accounting, I am not great at tracking money. Being aware of this, gives me a few options a) find a system that works for me or b) outsourced to someone who loves doing this.

Self-awareness is the key to your success. The more you are aware, the more you what you need to, can do and want to do. If accounting isn’t your thing, and you don’t really want to find a system that works, then you already know outsourcing is going to be the thing.

But let’s say consistency isn’t up your alley, then hiring someone to hold you accountable may be the strategy you need.

What makes your heart sing?

Now, how do you tie your strength and weakness into something that you cannot stop thinking about and you would do it for free if it wasn’t for the fact you need to live?

Years ago, I had a book-keeping business because despite being dyslexic, I was good with all the details of debits and credits, creating spreadsheets and so on. But I didn’t love it. I struggle sitting behind the desk for hours on end, get tired and my energy bottoms out.

However, when it comes to helping people go after their dreams, taking action and holding them accountable, now that lights me up like a firecracker and my energy is… well a high that is hard to explain.

I also love helping people with some technical aspects i.e. link their opt-in to their newsletter, edit website pages, build websites – but this isn’t something I would want to do all day long either – ha. It’s just something I am good at and I don’t mind helping here and there.

But what about you?

What gets you so excited that you can’t stop thinking about in the morning or when you go to bed?

What gives you that “energetic high” that lights you up from the inside out.

What would feel like a dream come true if you could make money with that dream?

Take a moment and reflect on that ultimate dream and give yourself permission that it is possible.
